WE NEED YOUR HELP
By Dick Long
Diving, the Ocean and I need your help. For years we have been perfecting the process of cleaning and preparing ships, army tanks and planes to be placed upon the bottom of the Ocean, lakes and quarries as fish habitat and dive sites. We are now ready to bring this expertise to large scale application and implementation all over the Nation and the world. The first step is to prove to the various government entities and the Diving industry that the public and divers (you) want and support this concept. We have amassed years’ worth of scientific and economic research (documented and available to you free of charge), plus practical experience to show how to do this right. Further, this process will more than pay for itself. We call all of this “Ships to Reefs” (S2R). We have formed a not for profit organization, Ships to Reefs International (S2RI) to assist local organizations (we call them “Sink Groups”) with information, guidance and fund raising to make all of this happen.
I need you to visit our websites, www.reefingisnow.org and www.CS2R.org, to educate yourself on the subject. Then review the things you can do (listed there) to help bring this to common practice and a dive site near you without spending any money. If you, after learning all this believe as I do, that S2R is a worthwhile thing for our society to do, then send us a letter or E-mail giving us permission to put you or your company or dive club on our list of supporters. If you do nothing more than this, I will be eternally grateful. I am sure all the other divers and fishes will also. In addition, if you would like to volunteer to assist in the worthy endeavor “Do I have a job for you!”
You can send any questions or comments to me through the DUI website or E-mail or either of the two websites listed above. Just for the record, so you know the level of my commitment, and that of Susan and DUI to diving and this concept, we have donated over $700,000 dollars (starting with the Yukon) and thousands of hours over the last 10 years to this cause. We are absolutely committed.
Again I come to you as a fellow diver and DOG asking for your help and support. Diving and I really do need it.
Thank you.
