When it comes to designing your DUI drysuit system the possibilities are endless!

STEP 1 - SELECT YOUR DIVEWEAR INSULATION

Drysuit insulation is an important consideration in design your dream drysuit.  A drysuit is designed to keep you dry; what you wear underneath it keeps you warm. A DUI is a system – the DUI and the DiveWear (insulation) work together to keep you warm and comfortable regardless of the diving conditions.

DUI has a complete range of DiveWear Insulation garments so you can choose the style, design and material that works best for you.

When selecting your DiveWear Insulation, consider the coldest waters in which you will dive. By layering insulation for your coldest dive you can wear less for warmer waters. This means you can use the same DUI Drysuit System for all of your diving adventures.

STEP 6 - SELECT YOUR UPPER BODY DRYSUIT COLORS

Now for the fun of selecting your very own drysuit colors. DUI has more colors and designs to choose from than any other manufacture on the planet!  View our PHOTO GALLERY for inspiration.

For all the suits except the CF200X, select from any of the nylon, Tough Duck, Cordura, or Limited Edition.  With 50 colors and patterns, you can find one that is uniquely you!

DUI nylon drysuit color choices DUI touch duck drysuit colors
Limited edition DUI drysuit fabrics

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THE MATERIALS?

NYLON is the lightest weight fabric and it comes in the widest array of colors. It is also available in the accent piping. Nylon is not available on the CF200X as there can be issues with colorfastness during the crushing process. While the colors are bright, it should be noted that the brighter the color, the more susceptible it is to fading over time and in the sunlight.

Team America DrysuitTOUGH DUCK is a brand name and is slightly heavier with a more Cordura-type feel. It has excellent color fastness and the colors tend to be richer.

CORDURA is heavier than the Tough Duck.

LIMITED EDITION fabrics are just like Tough Duck.

SPECIAL NOTE:

Colors vary greatly depending on monitor adjustments, printer inks, etc. You can request a material sample or visit a DUI Dealer or attend a DUI DEMOTOUR to see actual fabric swatches.  Have fun selecting your very own drysuit colors.

STEP 7 - SELECT YOUR DRYSUIT BOOT STYLE

DUI has 3 different boot styles from which to choose:

ROCKBOOT SYSTEM
This is a 1.5mm neoprene sock attached to the drysuit with a DUI RockBoot worn over the top.

This boot style is especially popular for people who do a lot of walking and/or beach diving. RockBoots provide superior ankle support, traction and durability. They also provide a snug fit between a diver’s foot and their fin.

In addition to the above benefits, if you wear out a pair of RockBoots, you simply buy a new pair. If you wear out a pair of TurboBoots (below), the entire boot must be cut off and replaced which is a much more expensive repair.

A potential drawback is that between the suit, insulation and RockBoot, a diver often needs to upsize their fin if they are not currently diving in a drysuit.DUI drysuit boots RockBoots

TURBOBOOTS
These boots are attached directly to the drysuit with a sneaker-type sole and ankle straps.

These are preferred by divers who prefer a smaller boot or who like not having to carry an extra set of boots. It is also popular with divers who like maximum ankle flexibility for finning.

TURBOTEC BOOTS
This is an upgrade to your DUI. It is the same as a TurboBoot however it has additional Kevlar for added durability on the high wear areas on the heel and toe.

DUI drysuit boots TurboTec

SUPERFLEX BOOTS
A 3mm nipped noeprene boot that has a close fit and allows divers to wear lighter insulation.  Available on all TLS350, FLX EXTREME, and CLX450 drysuits.  Neoprene drysuits to be available in 2016.

drysuit boots superflex

Whatever boot you select, your dealer can help you choose your size OR simply put your shoe size on the form and DUI will select it for you based on our size chart.

SPECIAL NOTE: All DUI boots are designed to be worn with DiveWear insulation. If you only intend to wear heavy socks, please tell us otherwise your boots will be too big.

STEP 8 - SELECT YOUR DRYSUIT SEAL CHOICE

All DUI Drysuits include your choice of drysuit seals including ZipSeals* Drysuit seals Silicone ZipSeals by DUI

ZipSeals allow divers the ability to instantly change their seals. Rip a seal just before a dive? No problem – just grab your spare ZipSeal in your dive bag and in a minute you can have it zipped onto your DUI and you are diving!

ZipSeals also allow divers the opportunity to change from a ZipSeal wrist to a ZipGlove in minutes so the diver can have completely dry hands.

ZipSeals are available in

WRIST

SILICONE
DUI’s newest and most popular seals, silicone provides excellent stretch and are considered by many to be the most comfortable seal. Silicone is also very resistant to ozone and UV. Many find these to be the driest of all of the seals and excellent for divers with pronounced wrist tendons. Excellent for those with latex or rubber allergies. These seals are trimmed to fit.
LATEX
Made with 100% natural hypo-allergenic rubber. These seals are more durable and puncture resistant than silicone. These seals are trimmed to fit.
HEAVY-DUTY LATEX
Similar to the standard latex, these are made with a clay compound making them thicker. Some people feel that they last longer due to this. However it should be noted that they can leak on people with more prominent tendons or people with bony wrists. These seals are trimmed to fit.

NECK

SILICONE
DUI’s newest and most popular seal, silicone provides excellent stretch and is considered by many to be the most comfortable seal. Silicone is also very resistant to ozone and UV. Many find these to be the driest of all of the seals and excellent for divers who occasionally experience irritation around the neck when using a latex seal. These seals are trimmed to fit.
LATEX
Made with 100% natural hypo-allergenic rubber. These seals are more durable and puncture resistant than silicone. These seals are trimmed to fit.
LATEX/ATTACHED HOOD COMBO
This is a neck seal and hood combination. This is designed to be worn when it is necessary that the head stay dry. It must always be worn with some type of insulation (i.e. DUI Polartec 300 fleece beanie) for warmth and to create an air space so that the diver can clear their ears. Most popular in extremely cold environments or for diving in contaminated water. The neck seal is trimmed to fit.
G2 – SECOND GENERATION
This neck ZipRing is 2.25” larger in diameter and almost 4” larger in circumference making it comfortably accommodate divers with larger head sizes. It also is thinner improving the flexibility. The G2 is available in latex only. These seals are trimmed to fit.
G2 – SECOND GENERATION/ATTACHED LATEX HOOD COMBO
Available November 2013. This is a G2 neck seal and hood combination. These seals are trimmed to fit.

While ZipSeals are by far the most popular choice on all new DUI drysuits due to their convenience, some divers prefer to have their seals directly attached to their suit. Therefore we continue to offer the following options:

LATEX
Available for the neck and wrist. Made with 100% natural hypo-allergenic rubber. Available for the neck and wrist. These seals are trimmed to fit.
HEAVY-DUTY LATEX
Available for the neck only. Similar to the standard latex, these are made with a clay compound making them thicker. Some people feel that they last longer due to this. However it should be noted that they can leak on people with more prominent tendons or people with bony wrists. Available for the wrist only. These seals are trimmed to fit.
NEOPRENE
Available for the neck and wrist. Neoprene seals are much less common. Benefits are durability and warmth. Drawbacks are they tend not to be as dry and are more difficult to put on and take off. Neoprene neck seals are not recommended for women as their neck is often much smaller in proportion to their head size then men. As the neoprene does not stretch as much, it can be extremely difficult to get on and off and if they can, it may not be small enough to seal well on the neck. Neoprene seals are available as follows and neck/wrist measurements are required as they are sized to fit:

Neck Fold Under
Wrist Fold Under
Wrist Cone

*ZipSeals are available as an upgrade on DUI’s Value Priced TLSSE drysuit

Only DUI offers drysuit seals in neoprene, silicone, latex and ZipSeals.

STEP 9 - SELECT YOUR DRYSUIT HOOD STYLE AND SIZE
STANDARD ULTRA DRYSUIT HOOD - WITH COLLAR
This is the choice for most DUI divers as it is designed to be worn with a suit with a warm neck collar. The skirt of the hood goes over the latex or silicone seal and tucks underneath the warm neck collar on the drysuit. This helps to reduce water flow and keep the neck warm.  Comes in two options: 7mm or 11mm.

Drysuit hood warmneck

ULTRA DRYSUIT HOOD - SHORT
This hood does NOT have the skirt.  Divers who do not have a warm neck collar on their drysuits or have a neoprene neck seal use this style of hood.  Divers who tend to be claustrophobic prefer this hood though it does not typically keep the diver as warm. Available in 7mm.

Drysuit hood standard

ATTACHED LATEX HOOD
Used mainly by Public Safety Divers diving in potentially contaminated water or by divers using a full face mask. Divers selecting this option most always do so using DUI ZipSeals.
ATTACHED NEOPRENE HOOD
About 1% of divers choose to have their hood attached. Most divers prefer a separate hood that allows you to take the hood off between dives or elect not to wear a hood at all.
STEP 10 - DRYSUIT ACCESSORY: SELECT ADDITIONAL OPTIONS TO MAKE YOUR DIVING MORE FUN!
EXTRA DRYSUIT OPTIONS

Below are a few unique requests and/or options that are available at DUI. These are typically chosen by divers who have owned more than one DUI and/or have specific needs for the type of diving that they do.

NEW - CHOOSE YOUR WATERPROOF ZIPPER STYLE

Now select your choice of drysuit zipper.  Metal or plastic.  What is the best waterproof zipper for you?  Click here to read more.

NEW - CHOOSE YOUR DRYSUIT HOSE

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION WHEN ADDING ACCESSORIES TO THE CF200X

These suits are made of neoprene and are designed to stretch. Adding accessories to them can reduce their stretch.

As an example, the overlay on the CF200X is on the torso only to minimize any reduction on the stretch. If an overlay was added down the arms, the overlay would greatly affect the amount of stretch on the arms.

When pockets are added on the side or front of the thigh, it may feel a little tighter than it did without the pockets. A relief zipper in the front of the crotch will prohibit that material from stretching.

While adding those accessories will not make a major difference on the way the drysuit fits, it can change how the drysuit feels. This should be taken into consideration when adding accessories to neoprene drysuits.

CAVE CUT

12 years ago, DIR-oriented divers requested a slimmer cut in a fabric (membrane) drysuit to lessen drag felt while using a scooter. DUI created a new set of sizing rules that minimizes the excess material in the circumferences of the suit without decreasing the material needed in the length of the suit. These rules are designed to be used with the Xm450 jumpsuit.

Most divers do NOT need a “Cave Cut” suit. DUI’s suits are designed to be close fitting yet provide the diver with complete freedom of movement. However some divers prefer a snug fitting suit just as some people prefer to wear tighter-fitting jeans.

If you desire a “Cave Cut” suit, you will be required to complete and sign a “Cave Cut Agreement”. This agreement is required to ensure you understand the Cave Cut can restrict movement with heavier insulation or in the event of even a slight weight gain.

Please note that a tight fitting suit can create greater wear on the fabric and the seams. Excessive wear due to a tight fit is not covered under warranty.

The CF200 is not available in a “Cave Cut” as the stretch in this material provides for a closer fitting suit already and, in actuality, every CF200 is already a “Cave Cut.”

CLX450 SOCKS WITH ROCKBOOTS

These are selected instead of neoprene socks and are worn with DUI’s RockBoots. These types of socks are chosen by divers who want their drysuits to dry in the quickest time possible. They are also chosen by many Public Safety Divers who want an easier material to decontaminate and by military divers who wear different types of footwear over the top of their socks.

The only downside would be that they do not stretch so we do not recommend for people with wide feet.

INLET VALVE PLACEMENT

Inlet valves have a standard placement on the upper center of the chest. It is important that this valve not interfere with the neck seal or waterproof zipper. This location is seldom changed.

The only divers who are most likely to change the location of the inlet valve are Special Forces divers who dive with front mounted rebreathers.

EXHAUST VALVE PLACEMENT

Exhaust valves have a standard placement on the upper left arm. The position is slightly different depending on the drysuit style:

TLS350, CLX450, FLX EXTREME, 30/30, FLX50/50 and TLSSE:

Exhaust valve placement is on the middle of the arm opposite the seam. It is lined up with the drysuit style patch.

CF200X, CF200SE, CNSE:

The center of the exhaust valve is 3″ from the middle of the arm opposite the sleeve. It is more forward as compared to the drysuit style patch. This is due to the closer fit of these drysuits.

About 5% of divers choose to move their exhaust valve placement.

Some divers prefer to move the valve on suits a little forward (toward the front of the suit) or even a little back (toward the back of the suit). DUI is happy to do this on any DUI at no additional charge. Specific instructions for placement (i.e. 1″ forward from standard placement) must be provided with the order.

The other most common location to move it is on the forearm.

Some divers feel it is easier to exhaust in this location. However having an exhaust valve on the forearm can make the suit dump air more often depending on the position of the arms (when the diver moves their arm up, it can cause the volume of air in the suit to increase and therefore cause the drysuit to manually dump air).

Underwater photographers typically find this unacceptable due to the fact that the bubbles can interfere with their ability to take pictures.
