DESIGNING YOUR OWN SPECIAL PRODUCTION & SIGNATURE SERIES DRYSUIT

NOTES AND SPECIAL REQUESTS

This area is for you to communicate anything that does not fit on the rest of the form.
You can add ZipGloves, extra ZipSeals or a Weight & Trim System.

You can also communicate any special needs or requests. The following options are available and are typically chosen by divers who have owned more than one DUI drysuit and/or have specific needs for the type of diving that they do.

CLASSIC STYLE ZIPPER

Before DUI’s invention of the QuickZip™ design, all DUI drysuits zipped from the upper left shoulder to the right hip. This is still how the CF200X zipper closes as well as the 30/30 Tropical and TLS Public Safety.

The QuickZip design curves around the body. The zipper begins in the lower back and ends in the front of the left shoulder. This has a number of benefits:

  • For many divers, it opens wider making it easier to put on and take off
  • Because it closes on the front of the left shoulder, the diver can easily view the zipper to ensure that it is closed
  • This zipper design is easier to fully open to put on and take off the suit (drysuit zipper damage can occur if the zipper is not fully open when the suit is put on and taken off)

However, the Classic Zipper design is often preferred by two types of divers and it is available on the TLS350 and CLX450:

  • Divers in which their previous DUI drysuit had a classic zipper are reluctant to change
  • Divers who are thicker in the chest – this often occurs in body builders or larger divers – they have a wider chest (from back to front) – the Classic Zipper design gives them more room in the shoulders making it easier for them to put on and take off

Special Note: Only overlay style #1 is available with the Classic Zipper Design.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION WHEN ADDING ACCESSORIES TO CF200 AND CNSE SUITS

Because these suits stretch - and that is often times why this suit style has been chosen - adding accessories to them can reduce their stretch.

As an example, the overlay on the CF200X is designed in such a way to minimize that effect. It is small and only on the front of the chest. If you added an overlay down the arms, the overlay would effect the amount of stretch on the arms.

When you add pockets on the side or front of the thigh, it may feel a little tighter than it did without the pockets. A relief zipper in the front of the crotch will prohibit that material from stretching.

While often times none of those accessories will make a major difference on the way the suit fits, it can change how the suit feels. This should be taken into consideration when adding accessories to your neoprene drysuits.

CAVE CUT

Ten years ago, DIR-oriented divers requested a slimmer cut in a TLS350 or CLX450 to lessen drag felt while using a scooter.

DUI created a new set of sizing rules that minimizes the excess material in the circumferences of the suit without decreasing the material needed in the length of the suit. These rules are designed to be used with the Xm450 jumpsuit.

Most divers do NOT need a “Cave Cut” suit. DUI’s suits are designed to be close fitting yet provide the diver with complete freedom of movement. However some divers prefer a snug fitting suit just as some people prefer to wear tighter-fitting jeans.

If you desire a “Cave Cut” suit, you will be required to complete and sign a “Cave Cut Agreement”. This agreement is required to ensure you understand the Cave Cut can restrict movement with heavier insulation or in the event of weight gain.

The CF200 is not available in a “Cave Cut” as the stretch in this material provides for a closer fitting suit already – in actuality, every CF200 is already a “Cave Cut.”

CLX450 SOCKS WITH ROCKBOOTS

These are selected instead of neoprene socks and are worn with DUI’s RockBoots. These types of socks are chosen by divers who want their drysuits to dry in the quickest time possible. They are chosen by many Public Safety Divers who want an easier material to decontaminate and by military divers who wear different types of footwear over the top of their socks. The only downside would be that they do not stretch so they may not be recommended for people with wide feet.

INLET VALVE PLACEMENT

Inlet valves have a standard placement on the upper center of the chest. It is important that this valve not interfere with the neck seal or waterproof zipper. This location is seldom changed. The divers who are most likely to change the location of the inlet valve are Special Forces divers who dive with front mounted rebreathers.

EXHAUST VALVE PLACEMENT

Exhaust valves have a standard placement on the upper left arm. The position is slightly different depending on the drysuit series:

TLS Series, CLX Series, FLX EXTREME, 30/30 and FLX50/50:

In the middle of the arm opposite the seam. It is lined up with the drysuit style patch.

CF Series and CN Series:

The center of the exhaust valve is 3" from the middle of the arm opposite the sleeve. It is more forward as compared to the drysuit style patch. This is due to the closer fit of these drysuits.

About 5% of divers choose to move this valve. The most common location to move it is on the forearm. Some divers feel it is easier to exhaust in this location. However having an exhaust valve on the forearm can make the suit dump air more often depending on the position of the arms (when the diver moves their arm up, it can cause the volume of air in the suit to increase and therefore cause the drysuit to manually dump air). Underwater photographers typically find this unacceptable due to the fact that the bubbles can interfere with ability to take pictures. Some divers prefer to move the valve on suits a little forward (toward the front of the suit) or even a little back (toward the back of the suit). DUI is happy to do this on any DUI Select, Special Production or Signature Series drysuit at no additional charge. We can change the location of the valve on a Standard drysuit at a small additional charge. Specific instructions for placement (i.e. 1" forward from standard placement) must be provided with the order.
