Dear DUI,

previous Next

Last weekend I did 4 dives at Anacappa on the Spectre in my CLX450 and Polartec suit. Needless to say I was talking about the cool sea lions who were buzzing us, while most of the other divers were trying to recover in the hot-tub and decide if they had another dive or two in them.

I did something wrong before the 4th dive because I thought I felt cold on my chest near the inlet valve, and when I stood upright, I would regularly get bubbles out through my hood. I've since checked for leaks and there are none ... which makes me think I was tired, lazy or sloppy in re-adjusting my latex neck seal after taking it off the neck ring prior to the last dive.

Anyway, the testimonial has to do with the quality of the Polartec suit. Despite having 2-4 cups of water in my suit:

(a) I knew something was wrong, but even with that much water in my suit, I was warmer than any of my partners.

(b) the wicking action of the suit was so effective that I never had a puddle anywhere, and after taking off the polartec suit I couldn't get any water out of it. The only way I could be sure that I had experienced a leak was that the front half of my heavy long cotton shorts were drenched (and no I didn't ...)

We all know how well your suits work when they're dry. I just wanted to tell you how well it still works when its wet.

Thanks,
